Get Connected

Get Connected is a mentoring project, offering people support from a Volunteer Mentor with the aim of increasing confidence and wellbeing. Get Connected is part of Community Bristol Mental Healthand is open to clients  receiving support from the Assessment and Recovery Teams across Bristol.

Clients receive 12 weekly sessions of one to one support to take part in activities which enhance their recovery, focusing on confidence building and making links in the community.  Support is offered via face to face and telephone sessions.

If you are receiving support from the Assessment and Recovery Teams, speak to your worker about a referral to Get Connected. Unfortunately you cannot self-refer.

We have received some amazing feedback from clients who have accessed support from Get Connected:

“I was absolutely satisfied, I do feel I achieved my goal, I managed to start volunteering at Windmill Hill City Farm. My mentor was such a great guy, friendly and lovely, he met me at the farm before and after my first session volunteering, I couldn’t have asked for more.”

“My mentor was pleasant; he asked nice questions, I felt relaxed around him. I didn’t feel like I shouldn’t be here, the service I had was more than good”

If you are a worker wanting to refer, please contact Senior Volunteer Coordinator Kate Milanes at Kate.Milanes@second-step.co.uk

Volunteer with us

Get Connected receives referrals for one-to-one mentoring in service and post discharge from the Community Mental Health Assessment and Recovery Teams.

As a Volunteer Mentor, you will support clients to work towards confidence building goals.  You will be supporting people who are linked in with the Assessment and Recovery Teams.

The Assessment and Recovery Teams ensure that all clients get the treatment and support they need to take control of their own mental health and lead fulfilling lives. With greater emphasis on working in partnership within communities and intervening early, the service helps to improve outcomes for people using mental health services across Bristol.

There are three Assessment and Recovery Teams working in South, Central and North Bristol and work closely with GP’s.

The Assessment and Recovery Teams work alongside other community mental health services including the Crisis Team and in-patient services, complementing the support they provide.
