Mental health support space in Bristol

The Sanctuary in Bristol is a safe space where you can come for mental health support if you’re having trouble coping or you feel lonely or isolated. It’s a place where you can pause, take a breather, and find some balance when things feel overwhelming. We can also help you access other support services.

Book a session for face-to-face or over the phone mental health support at the Sanctuary by giving us a call on 07709 295 661 during our client opening hours – Monday to Sunday between 6pm and 12.30am; our last appointment is at 11pm. Referrals will be responded to between 3pm and 6pm.

What is The Sanctuary?

If you’re finding it hard to cope or you’re in emotional distress, The Sanctuary is a physical space in Bristol where you can go to speak to trained workers who will listen and help you find further support.

We can offer same-day sessions during our opening hours to make sure you’re able to talk to someone as soon as possible. We can work with you to make a plan to help keep you safe, or we can provide a safe space where you can take some time to breathe and recentre yourself.

The Sanctuary in Bristol is based at Gloucester House at Southmead Hospital. Contact us by phone during our opening hours or by email anytime to book a same-day session. Sessions are by appointment only.

Who can get mental health support at The Sanctuary in Bristol?

Anyone who is 16 years old or over can access support at The Sanctuary in Bristol.

We support people who are experiencing serious emotional distress for all sorts of reasons. You may be going through a problem that is negatively affecting your mental health, or maybe you’re not sure where certain emotions are coming from and you’re finding it hard to cope.

Here are a few examples of things people are going through when they come to The Sanctuary:

  • Stress or frustration
  • Anxiety, worrying, or feeling overwhelmed
  • Depression, low moods or feelings of sadness
  • Feeling apathetic, like nothing matters or finding it hard to look forward to things
  • Feeling unmotivated or feeling a lack of meaning or purpose
  • Feeling lonely or isolated
  • Finding it hard to relate to others or missing meaningful social connections
  • Finding it difficult to manage emotions
  • Grief or loss
  • Circumstantial challenges, such as work, money, social or personal issues

What support does The Sanctuary in Bristol offer?

The Sanctuary in Bristol offers face-to-face sessions or a phone support service to anyone aged 16 years old or over.

Face-to-face sessions

Your session will include one-to-one time with a trained support worker who can offer listening support and work with you to make a plan to help keep you safe.

Phone support

If you’re unable to visit The Sanctuary in person or you would prefer to stay at home, you can book a phone session with us instead.

Phone sessions are up to 30 minutes long. You can book a phone session the same way you would book a face-to-face session, by contacting us during our opening hours.

The Sanctuary opening times

The Sanctuary in Bristol is open seven days a week for appointments between 6pm to 12.30am with the last appointment being offered at 11pm.

How to book a session at The Sanctuary in Bristol

To make a same-day appointment at the Sanctuary in Bristol, give us a call on 07709 295 661 during our opening hours – Monday to Sunday between 3pm and 11pm.

We will ask you a few questions over the phone to understand your needs before we book your session. Our first face-to-face appointments are available from 6pm.

Do you need an appointment to visit The Sanctuary in Bristol?

Yes, our sessions are by appointment only. Unfortunately, we cannot offer sessions to walk-ins if you do not have an appointment. However, your session will be on the same day you book the appointment.
