It works wonders

Volunteering with mental health charity Second Step works wonders for the people we support and for all our wonderful volunteers too. And we’re currently looking for new volunteers right now!

Volunteer roles include mentors or peer mentors, supporting our activity groups or helping our Wellbeing College tutors prepare and deliver their training.

Getting back to work

Last year we recruited 141 volunteers who contributed an amazing 6143 hours supporting people with mental health problems in Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire and Weston-super-Mare.

  • 40% of these volunteers went on to find work
  • 70% say their skills have improved while volunteering and
  • 65% of volunteers say their mental health and wellbeing improved through volunteering at Second Step.

Over half our volunteers have their own experiences of dealing with mental health problems or other difficulties such as alcohol or drug dependency or homelessness. Time and again we are told by people who use Second Step services how our volunteers are wonderfully supportive.

We’re recruiting for new volunteers right now. So please do get in touch to find out what roles we have and to talk to you about you can offer.

To find out more please call 0117 909 6630 ext 225 or email volunteering@second-step.co.uk. The closing date for applications is 18th August.
