Tai Chi moves de-stress staff

Mental health staff from charity Second Step downed tools for half an hour on Wednesday lunchtime in a bid to de-stress with an outdoor Tai Chi lesson.

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week (14 – 20 May) with its focus on stress, staff from the Bristol-based mental health charity found some inner calm, thanks to Tai Chi teacher John Bruce from the Bristol School of Tai Chi.

Michael Pearson, a senior manager at Second Step, said: “It was a great experience – we all felt much more relaxed after the half-hour session. And we certainly attracted a lot of attention!”

“It’s so important to find ways to de-stress while at work and taking half an hour for Tai Chi did just that,” he added.

A YouGov survey commissioned by the Mental Health Foundation for Mental Health Awareness Week found that 74% of us were so stressed we felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.
