Our mission

Second Step is a leading mental health charity in the South West offering housing, support and hope to thousands of people with mental health and other problems.

Our belief

We believe in a world where everyone affected by mental health problems can create a positive future.

Our mission

We promote mental health and wellbeing by supporting people and communities to build brighter futures.

Our approach

You may come to us with very little or no hope at all. Feeling hopeless, isolated and alone, you may be despairing – finding yourself stuck in a difficult place.

We will work alongside you wherever you are and in whatever emotional state you are in. What’s more, we will work with you at your pace; always understanding that this is your situation, unique to you. We will show respect for you at all times – gently and sensitively acknowledging the possibilities for change that are specifically and specially framed for you.

About Us

Second Step is a leading mental health charity in the South West offering housing, support and hope to thousands of people with mental health and other problems.

In the mid-1980s, a passionate group of social workers and community psychiatric nurses recognised that many people were in hospital not just because of their mental health problems, but because they had nowhere else to go.

Our values

Believing in hope and courage

Recovery becomes a reality when we are confident, courageous and inspire hope in one another. Change happens and we can achieve great things.
