Homeless mentoring project UP has been nominated for a Homeless Link award for Excellence in Co-production.
Maria Franchi, the manager of the volunteer service at Second Step, said: "We're delighted to have been nominated for this award. Our mentors and their mentees are at the heart of the project and are involved at every step of the way." Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Tuesday 4 July.
The five year project, run by Second Step, supports people at risk of homelessness with mentors who have their own experiences of being homeless. This kind of peer mentoring seems like a good idea but there is very little data around about whether it works. The UP Project evaluates all its mentor/mentee relationships in the hope of discovering how useful it is. Independent evaluators from the University of Southampton are working alongside the project and will be compiling a report.
