Toll House Court
What is Toll House Court?
Located in Southville, Bristol; Toll House Court is a supported housing scheme for single homeless people with mental health needs. Tenants receive support on a one-to-one basis to help them move towards independent living.
Toll House Court is fully furnished and provides 20 tenants with their own self-contained flat. There is also a communal lounge, laundry and garden as well as a meeting room and staff office.
What support will I receive?
The aim of Toll House Court is to act as a stepping stone to independent living. People will live at the project for 6 - 12 months and staff from Second Step and Bristol City Council will provide help and support in finding suitable long-term accommodation.
In addition to this, a dedicated support worker will help you and together you will create an individual Support Plan based on your individual needs and interests, including goals such as life skills, employment and "move-on" needs.
Do I need a referral?
Yes - we can only accept referrals from Bristol City Council Homelessness Service who will have recognised you as homeless and in priority need.
Who can use this service?
If you want to be considered for this service you will currently:
- have current mental health needs, requiring some level of support to live independently;
- be single and aged over 16;
- be willing to accept Toll House Court as short-term accommodation for between 6 - 12 months;
- be living in a B&B or accommodation, which is unsuitable and unable to support your mental health needs;
- be willing to accept support as part of your tenancy agreement;
- be eligible for housing benefit;
- have basic living skills and the ability to maintain your own home;
- agree to follow Second Step's Equal Opportunities Policy; and
- not be a problematic or injecting drug user.
Please note: If you have had a problem with drugs in the past we will need to make sure that you have not used illegal drugs for 3 months and are committed to continue not using drugs. If you are in this position we would expect you to be already working with an agency to give you support in this.
Toll House Court is not suitable if you have only just started to address drug dependency issues.
Will I need to pay anything?
We ask tenants to pay a small contribution to the running of Toll House Court, which pays for the heating and hot water. Tenants are also responsible for their electric costs, which run on a key-meter.
There may be a shortfall in your rent depending on which benefits you are entitled to. You can discuss this at your assessment.
