Managing Depression

A three session course looking at the symptoms of depression and introducing the idea of achieve, connect and enjoy. Suitable for anyone who has experienced depression, is depressed, or wants to learn strategies to cope with depression.

Confidence Building

This three session course looks at what confidence is, what we think characterises confidence and what we can do to improve our confidence. The course also looks at comfort zones and the relationship they have with confidence.

The above courses are free to carers and people who are either using a service within Bristol Mental Health or have been recommended our courses by one of the service teams within Bristol Mental Health.

Discovering Good Mental Health

This six session course is designed by peers (people employed because of their own experiences of mental health problems), volunteers and people who have used or are using services.  Together we explore what good mental health means for you.

The course covers:

  • What we mean by recovery
  • Our support networks and how we communicate with others
  • Self awareness and what is important to us
  • What we enjoy doing and would like to try out
  • Useful self management tools
  • The five ways to wellbeing
  • Our achievements and goals

The course is split into two modules that can either be completed as one or split so you can complete the course over a longer period of time.

Peer Support Training

Second Step Recovery College Peer Support Course Logo

The Peer Support course is aimed at anyone who has lived experience of mental health, homelessness, and/or substance misuse.  Learners for this course will receive training in being able to share their experience and recovery story with others who are facing similar challenges.

This six day course covers the theory and practice of peer work.  We also look at tools for keeping well, communication techniques to promote wellbeing as well as exploring the reality of working in a peer role.
