North Somerset Intensive Tenancy Support
What is Intensive Tenancy Support?
NSITS is a service working across North Somerset for people receiving secondary mental health services who are at risk of entering residential care or of a long term psychiatric hospital admission.
For instance you may be being discharged from hospital after a long stay back to your home or to a new home. The Team will assist you with practical issues such as re-instating or claim for new benefits, securing a tenancy, organising payment of bills or furnishing your home. The service can also provide therapeutic interventions under the instruction of your care team to make the transition from hospital to home less traumatic.
What support will I receive?
The support you receive will be negotiated between yourself, your care team and the ITS service at your CPA meetings. Most people who use this service receive daily support from the team including weekends. You will receive a weekly support timetable detailing the times of your support and the activity or aim of your support session.
The service designed to be flexible supporting some people for the long term or working with others for shorter periods of time. The aim of the service is to maximise people’s independence and skills with a view of moving to a lower support service.
Do I need a referral to this service?
Yes, the service is only able to consider applications from a Care Co-ordinator due to the way the service is funded.
Who can use this service?
You should:

have mental health needs and be in receipt of secondary mental health services;

be at risk of entering residential or long term hospital care;

be willing to engage with support;

agree to follow Second Step’s equal opportunities policy;

have some issues in regard to managing your accommodation.
Will I need to pay anything?
If you are unemployed and on benefits it is unlikely that you will have to pay anything for using this service.
If you do have savings or other income, please discuss this with us. Our funding for this service comes from the Government's "Supporting People" programme.
