North Somerset Bed and Breakfast Support

Second Step provides a range of good quality supported housing and support services in North Somerset, Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire.  These services are for people experiencing mental health difficulties and tenancy related support needs.

What support will I receive?
Everyone who comes to Second Step receives support designed around his or her individual needs.  We provide you with a dedicated support worker who jointly completes a recovery plan tailored to the individual’s needs and interests.

The Support we provide is at medium level.
Our medium level support gives service users regular contact with a Second Step support worker. 

Do I need a referral to this service?
All referrals to our Bed & Breakfast support service are usually made through North Somerset Housing Advice Team (HAT).  Anyone who has been temporarily housed by North Somerset HAT should have a Housing Officer, who will assist with making a referral to Second Step.

We will also accept referrals from other support services and self referrals from anyone who wants to make their own application for support.

Who can use this service?
If you want to be considered for the Bed and Breakfast support service, you need to: 

  • be either homeless or facing a threat of becoming homeless;
  • be experiencing mental health difficulties and requiring some level of support to manage your tenancy independently;
  • be currently living in temporary hostel or bed and breakfast accommodation;
  • be single and aged between 16 and 65 years old;
  • have the need to work towards maintaining your own tenancy;
  • be able to self medicate

 and 

  • agree to follow Second Step’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

Please note:  There may be the rare occasion when we are limited in the support we can give people, but we will always look at people’s individual needs and how we can best provide help, using an initial assessment meeting to explore those needs in depth.

What is the Bed & Breakfast Support Service?
Second Step has a team of support workers who provide support to people with mental health difficulties who are living in temporary hotel or bed and breakfast accommodation. 

The support we give is always set at medium level, and this is tailored to every individual’s needs as identified in the initial assessment meeting.

We can help you find suitable alternative accommodation, and provide support to help you manage living in your own home.

We support people in their recovery journey by focussing on strengths, courage and dreams.  Contrary to what many people believe, we know that most of us who experience mental illness go on to live full and rewarding lives.  We believe recovery is possible for everyone.  Hope is central to all the work we do.
