Assertive Outreach
What is Assertive Outreach?
Second Step has a small team of Community Support Workers who are seconded into two of Bristol’s Assertive Outreach Teams (North and South). They work within these multi-disciplinary teams to provide housing related support to service users with complex needs. The service also participated in the CEED traineeship scheme, and has a trainee working in each team.
Assertive Outreach teams provide treatment and support, to people with on-going mental health problems who may have found it difficult to engage with other services in the past.
Teams work intensively with you and will see you almost every day if required but they can be flexible and will work around your other needs and commitments. They will see you in your preferred environment, where your feel most comfortable. This could be at home, a cafe or other public place - whatever is most suitable.
Support can be frequent and as long-term as required and it aims to build a relationship between you and appropriate mental health support.
Assertive Outreach teams are usually made up of a range of staff, including psychiatrists, psychologists, community psychiatric nurses (CPNs), social workers, mental health workers and other specialised staff.
What support is offered?
The Second Step service provides housing related floating support within the Assertive Outreach structure.
